An explosion at a military base utilized by Iraq's Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) on Friday resulted in the death of one PMF fighter and injuries to five others, as reported by Reuters, citing sources. The incident occurred in Babylon Governorate, situated south of Baghdad, with injured individuals receiving treatment at Al-Mahawil General Hospital.

The Popular Mobilization Forces released a statement confirming the explosion at the Forward Operating Base Kalsu, also known as 'FOB Kalsu.'

"An explosion occurred at the headquarters of the Popular Mobilization Forces at the Kalsu military base in the Al-Mashrou district on the highway, north of Babil Governorate," PMF said in the statement.

"An investigation team immediately arrived at the scene, and the explosion caused material losses and injuries. We will provide you with the details once the preliminary investigation is completed."

Initial Iraqi reports hinted at US involvement in the explosion, but the US military refuted these claims, stating that they were not responsible.

"We are aware of reports claiming that the United States conducted airstrikes in Iraq today. Those reports are not true. The United States has not conducted air strikes in Iraq today," US Central Command said on X.

The explosion came a day after Israel reportedly carried out a military strike near a major air base and nuclear site in central Iran. Both Israel and Iran have downplayed the incident, with Israel maintaining silence and Iran refraining from identifying the attacker. No substantial damage was reported, and the International Atomic Energy Agency confirmed "no damage" to Iran's nuclear sites.
