Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, Feb. 25

By Huseyn Hasanov - Trend:

Turkmenistan became a full member of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), said the country's Foreign Ministry in a message issued Feb. 25.

Prior to this, Turkmenistan's work with the IEAE was based on the "Agreement for the Application of Safeguards in Connection with the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons", signed 2005.

The IEAE, headquartered in Vienna, was established in 1957 as an independent organization within the UN system.

The IEAE's aim is to develop cooperation for the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
